About ConsensusIntel

Blockchain forensics and expert witness services from a working production engineer.

Background

Nick Kampe has spent over 15 years designing, building, and operating production infrastructure systems, the category of engineering that cryptocurrency exchanges, custody platforms, and blockchain networks depend on to function reliably at scale.

His background includes a management role at Kraken, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, where he managed across Site Reliability Engineering, Core Infrastructure, and Security, the technical functions responsible for exchange operations and custody at institutional scale. He currently works as the principal DevOps and platform engineer at Yuga Labs, the organization behind Bored Ape Yacht Club and related NFT and Web3 properties.

He has been an active participant in the Bitcoin network since 2011, predating most forensic tools, most regulatory frameworks, and most of the exchanges that now dominate the industry. That tenure provides a depth of contextual knowledge that no certification program can replicate. He has observed the industry's development from its earliest infrastructure through its current institutional phase.

His active development work spans Rust-based on-chain systems, Solidity smart contract development, EVM infrastructure, validator node operations, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and observability engineering at production scale. This is not historical background; it is current, ongoing work.

Forensic Methodology

ConsensusIntel applies the same discipline to forensic analysis that governs reliable software engineering: reproducibility, documentation, and honest testing of assumptions. Every conclusion is structured to be independently verified by another qualified analyst given the same inputs.

Analysis is presented at the confidence level the evidence supports, no further. Where attribution is uncertain, as it often is in blockchain analysis, that uncertainty is stated explicitly. Overstating conclusions weakens rather than strengthens expert testimony, and it does not survive cross-examination.

The complete methodology, including the tools used, the standards followed, and the limitations of attribution, is documented on the Methodology page . That page is written with Daubert scrutiny in mind.

Certifications and Professional Development

Certifications in this field are supplementary to direct operational experience, not a substitute for it. The relevant credential for blockchain-specific expert testimony is a demonstrated technical understanding of how these systems actually work, built through years of building and operating them, not a certification course taken after the fact.

ConsensusIntel's principal pursues ongoing professional development through technical coursework, active participation in the blockchain security and forensics community, and continued hands-on engineering work with production blockchain systems.

Independence

ConsensusIntel maintains no active advisory relationships, equity interests, or service agreements with cryptocurrency exchanges or blockchain protocols that would create a conflict in an analysis. Independence is a prerequisite for credibility in expert witness work, and it is treated as a non-negotiable condition of accepting any engagement.

Service Area

ConsensusIntel is based in St. Louis County, Missouri and serves attorneys, law firms, and institutional clients throughout Missouri and nationwide. Remote consulting is available for matters in any jurisdiction.
